Saints Sign Former Seahawks RB Julius Jones

Looking to shore up a backfield depleted by the absence of Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush, the New Orleans Saints signed running back Julius Jones, who was released by the Seattle Seahawks last week after the team traded for Marshawn Lynch.

Jones, a former starter for the Dallas Cowboys and for two seasons with the Seahawks before being unseat in the first string role by Justin Forsett, was brought on by New Orleans after Ladell Betts struggled in relief action in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. Betts fumbled a ball that was returned for a touchdown and had a pass clang off his hands for an interception.

The Saints also released veteran kicker John Carney, who missed a critical field goal at Arizona. Carney was signed by the Saints to take over kicking duty for Garrett Hartley, who has struggled so far this season.
