UCF And Marshall Do Battle In Wednesday Night C-USA Showdown

Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - Jeff Godfrey rushed for a pair of scores and Ronnie Weaver compiled a career-high 150 yards on the ground as UCF downed Marshall, 35-14, for the Knights' eighth straight win in Conference USA play.

Junior quarterback Rob Calabrese injured his left knee during his first- quarter TD run for the Knights (4-2, 2-0 C-USA), who also got a 42-yard interception return for a score by A.J. Bouye. Godfrey finished 11-of-21 for 138 yards and was picked off once.

Brian Anderson was 15-of-30 for 129 yards with a TD pass and was intercepted once for the Thundering Herd (1-5, 0-2), who fell behind 14-0 in the first half and never recovered on a stormy night at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. The game was delayed 68 minutes in the second quarter due to lightning.

Aaron Dobson caught five passes for 119 yards and two scores in defeat.

Calabrese scored on a two-yard run in the first quarter, but after reaching the end zone standing up, landed awkwardly on his knee and was replaced by Godfrey, a freshman from Miami Central High in Florida.

Godfrey dashed to the end zone on a nine-yard keeper just 1:13 into the second quarter for a 14-0 lead, but Dobson leaped in the end zone to reel in Anderson’s 12-yard pass later in the second.

The game went into a delay with 6:06 left in the second and the teams never went to the locker room for halftime, as officials shortened the break due to the poor weather conditions.

Jamar Newsome returned the second-half kickoff 70 yards, setting up Godfrey's five-yard TD run for a 21-7 lead.

Three plays later, Bouye dashed into the end zone with his interception return, but he missed an open-field tackle moments later on Dobson's 86-yard TD catch on a pass from Eddie Sullivan.

Latavius Murray scored on a seven-yard run in the fourth quarter.
