Fernando Torres, Paul Konchesky Expected Fit For Merseyside Derby

When the English Premier League resumes on this weekend, stumbling Everton (17th place) and Liverpool (18th) will meet in a bizarro version of the Merseyside derby, with both Premier League mainstays threatening to carry their struggles precariously deep into the new season. With each club facing the heightened scrutiny of a derby loss throwing them closer to the table's bottom, fully fit players will be at the forefront of Roy Hodgson and David Moyes's minds. For that reason, Hodgson will have less on his mind today following the news that two of his starters should be ready for Sunday's match.

Fernando Torres, who was left Liverpool's last match early with a groin strain, but after skipping Spain's week of Euro 2012 qualifiers, the striker is on track to play against Everton. According to Liverpool's head of sport medicine, Dr. Peter Brukner, Torres responded "very well" to treatment. The Spaniard is how ready to resume training and, if there are no setbacks before Sunday, should take the pitch against the Toffees.

Also ready to play is left back Paul Konchesky, who was a doubt thanks to a hamstring problem, is set to play a part on Sunday, needed news with Daniel Agger picking up an injury while on international duty with Denmark.

Also scheduled to miss Sunday's match: Dirk Kuyt, who will be out until the new year, having picked up an injury while playing with the Netherlands.
