Tony La Russa Returning As Cardinals Manager In 2011

Before the year, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa signed a one-year extension that carried him through the 2010 season. Following the conclusion, the question then became: will La Russa come back for another go? The team extended a formal offer, but La Russa took some time in mulling it over before deciding that, yes, he will.

La Russa will return to the Cardinals in 2011 for his 16th season at the helm. Financial details have not been disclosed, but his contract also calls for a 2012 mutual option.

There is speculation that La Russa's future in St. Louis is strongly tied to that of Albert Pujols, whose current contract runs out after 2011 is over.

La Russa has managed the Cardinals to a 1318-1110 record over his 15 seasons to date. Read more on the Cardinals and their manager over at Viva El Birdos.
