Settle Down, Wayne Rooney Not Signing With MLS

I hate to be the wet blanket, but it needs to be said: Wayne Rooney is not coming to the Red Bulls, Galaxy or any other MLS team anytime in the near future.

↵

You might be tempted to look at the contract given to Thierry Henry and think "Rooney doesn’t make much more than that," but you’d be ignoring the more important issue: Rooney has nothing to gain by playing here.

↵

He’s just 24 years old and is still considered one of the top talents in the world. Playing in MLS, even if he dominated, wouldn’t improve his ability to rehab his reputation.

↵I guess you could argue that the press would be easier on him here, but when’s the last time an athlete that young made this kind of career decision based on running from tabloids? I’m guessing never.

↵Rooney may be in a bad place right now, but it would be absolutely shocking if that led him here.
