With two on and none out in the bottom of the fifth of Game 4 of the ALCS, Mark Teixeira grounded a ball to third base. The play itself appeared to be harmless - it was a simple fielder's choice - but on Teixeira's way down to first base, he grimaced and pulled up, holding the back of his right leg.
Mark Teixeira Suffers Probable Hamstring Injury In ALCS Game 4
Yankee trainers came out of the dugout to take a look at him and soon thereafter escorted him off of the field, to be replaced by Marcus Thames. The early diagnosis is that Teixeira injured his hamstring. The only real question is how badly he did it. An injured hamstring could be a day-to-day deal, or it could be enough to keep Teixeira out for the remainder of the playoffs.
Teixeira has gone hitless in the ALCS, and has four hits in the postseason. Stay tuned to this storystream for updates, and check out Pinstripe Alley for more.
