Wild Sign Jose Theodore To One-Year Deal
Jose Theodore, the NHL goalie who believe it or not has more than one obsessive fan Web site, is no longer just a "former Capitals goaltender." The Masterton Trophy winner signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Minnesota Wild today, ending what was certainly a long, frustrating summer for him.
The Wild needed a backup goaltender after Josh Harding went down with torn ligaments in his knee last week. It's expected that Harding will miss the entire season.
At Hockey Wilderness, our Wild blog, they’re a little confused. With all the young goalies the Wild have in the system, why would they sign somebody from the outside? Nathan Eide explains.
I have to say, I'm not quite stunned, as there have been whispers about this since Harding toppled in St. Louis. That said, I'm surprised. I thought having Matt Hackett as the #1 guy in Houston with Anton Khudobin backing up Backstrom would have been sufficient this season. I thought it would be good for Hackett to get the minutes in the AHL and get Khudobin 15-20 games with the big club. Maybe now each Hackett and Khudobin will get 35 or so games in Houston? I'm confused by this move.
