Liverpool striker Fernando Torres could miss the season's first Merseyside Derby featuring Liverpool and Everton on 17 October after coming off during the ninth minute of Liverpool's eventual 1-2 defeat at the hands of Blackpool last Sunday.
European Football Headlines: Euro 2012 Qualification Approaching
The Spanish international has been confirmed as missing Spain’s two Euro 2012 qualifiers v Lithuania and Scotland which take place this week as his most recent injury setback, a groin strain, puts even more added pressure onto Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson.
Liverpool, currently 18th in the Premier League, are in the midst of a financial crisis while the start to their 2010-11 domestic season has been one to forget. Torres’ potential absence, either short, or long term, will ask significant questions of Roy Hodgson’s abilities in getting the best out of his current squad.
