St. Pierre Vs. Koscheck Official For UFC 124 Dec. 11 In Montreal

After three long years of slowly climbing the ranks in the welterweight division, Josh Koscheck will finally get another shot at Georges St. Pierre. The two first met in 2007 at UFC 74, St. Pierre's first appearance since losing his title to Matt Serra at UFC 69, making this Koscheck's first true shot at the welterweight championship.

The first go round didn’t fare well for Kos, as GSP was able to one-up his opponent in every facet of the fight, including wrestling. Koscheck was neutralized for the duration of the five rounds, resulting a unanimous decision victory for St. Pierre. St. Pierre would regain his title at UFC 83, TKO-ing Matt Serra with some savage knees to the body. It’s been smooth sailing ever since. In his four successful title defenses since UFC 83, St. Pierre has been able to bully opponents for each five round fight, only finishing BJ Penn.

Fans haven’t exactly been thrilled with the manner GSP is defending his title, but seeing as his tride and true method has seen him safely through many of his last opponents -- including Koscheck -- I don’t foresee a change in strategy coming from his head trainer, Firas Zahabi.

Koscheck has been pretty vocal about St. Pierres 'lay and pray' style, saying it's not what fans pay good money to see, and the like. But Koscheck has been found guilty by MMA fans for many of the same injustices. Koscheck is fresh off a relatively uneventful decision win over Paul Daley at UFC 113 in May, where, the most exciting moment came after the final bell had already rung. Daley's cheap shot stole the fight, but Koscheck didn't make it very difficult by treating fans to an action-packed fifteen minutes.

You can watch the two battle it out vicariously through MMA prospects on the twelfth season of the ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ where GSP looks to take a 3-0 lead over Koscheck with the help of Mike Tyson’s sagely coaching advice. Episode 4 of TUF 12 premiers tonight on Spike.
