A day after ESPN's Adam Schefter indicated that he believed there was no chance that a deal would be done between the Patriots and the Chargers involving Vincent Jackson, Comcast SportsNet New England reporter Tom E. Curran reported that the Patriots and Chargers are engaged in preliminary talks about a trade involving holdout receiver Vincent Jackson.
Patriots And Chargers Reportedly In Preliminary Talks On Vincent Jackson Trade
Many speculated that the Patriots would use the third-round pick the team acquired from the Vikings toward acquiring Jackson, who is believed to now be holding out for the entire 2010 season now that he hasn't received a long-term deal from the Chargers.
The problem with that is that the Chargers previously indicated that the asking price for Jackson is a first- and second-round pick from an AFC team in exchange for Jackson. That means the Vikings pick couldn’t be used at all. Of course, the Pats have two picks in each of the first four rounds in the 2011 draft, so the Pats certainly have more than a few picks to spare if the the team truly wants to get a deal done.
