For those of you who don’t know, Shane Hallam is a staff member at Draft Countdown with Scott Wright. Of all the hardcore solo draft guys, I never imagined Wright would let someone in on his empire. So that should speak to how good Shane is. Still, kinda weird that Shane’s new mock is on the site’s sickeningly popular message board and not the main part of the site.
Rock out with your mock draft out: Shane Hallam
ANYWAY.
Hallam remains a believer in Washington quarterback Jake Locker. The trend in mocks lately is to include Locker in the teens, at best. Some mock makers have excluded Locker from the first round completely. It's fine having Locker still in the first round, but Hallam has him going to San Francisco with the third overall pick. If Locker is the pick, Alex Smith is done in San Francisco. And if that's the case, do the 49ers really take a similar signal caller?
One big faller in Hallam’s mock is Alabama defensive tackle/end Marcell Dareus. Pegged at pick 16 to Dallas (good fit), this is one of the furthest landing spots I’ve seen for Dareus this season.
Another notable choice is having Notre Dame's Michael Floyd over Pittsburgh's Jonathan Baldwin. From my viewpoint, there's nothing Floyd can do that Baldwin can't do just as well. Add to that Baldwin's superior pass catching and you have a better player.
It was also interesting to see three running backs in the first round in Mark Ingram, Ryan Williams and Mikel Leshoure. At this point, for me, Ingram is the only first-round prospect among running backs.
You can see Hallam’s whole mock right here. Antagonize him on Twitter here. And remember, put a mock draft of your own in the Fan Posts. Maybe if we get enough, I’ll rock my own mock.
