Xavi Hernandez has revealed that had he not taken a well-earned breather in Barcelona’s last league match against Mallorca, and now during the Spain’s Euro 2012 qualifiers, he would have been at risk at missing out on the entire season through injury. Xavi last ran out in Russia against Rubin Kazan in the Champions League group match, after which it was decided together with the Barca medical team that he should rest.
Barcelona’s Xavi Was At Risk Of Losing Season To Injury
↵The midfield maestro had been carrying a painful tendonitis in his heels, with even his father stating how close his son was to breaking down during August and September. Looking back on the last two seasons, it’s not hard to see why Xavi has been stretched to breaking point. The man at the heart of two trophy and fixture-filled seasons at Barcelona, sandwiched a historic World Cup campaign with La Roja, have left the man from Terrassa with limited time to put his feet up.
↵Still, Xavi is hopeful that he will be able to make the match against Valencia next week in the Camp Nou, a game Barcelona can ill-afford not to win. After losing to Hercules and drawing with Mallorca in their last two matches at home, Pep will have his fingers crossed his midfield brain is back to spark Barca back into life against the side flying high at the top of La Liga.
