Major League Soccer, Week 28: What Will Be Left To Play For

With two results already in the books, there’s not a lot new that we’re learning. The Galaxy continue to get results and are going to be tough to unseat as the Supporters Shield favorites. The Crew, meanwhile, are just having a really rough time dealing with fixture congestion.

The Crew failed to win for the fifth straight MLS match and have now claimed 12 points in their past 11 after losing 2-0 to the Chicago Fire. Their playoff position is about as set in stone as it gets as it seems highly unlikely that they'll be able to turn it around in time to catch the Red Bulls and are in absolutely no danger of being caught by any other Eastern Conference side.

By virtue of claiming all three points, the Fire also kept their playoff hopes flickering. They would likely have to win all three of their remaining matches, and need the Rapids to lose three straight, but a team can hope can't it? Peter Lowry and Brian McBride scored for Chicago.

The Crew, who were tied for the Supporters Shield lead as recently as Sept. 4, could conceivably finish the season with the sixth or seventh most points (although they will still get the No. 2 seed in the East).
