Sir Alex Ferguson has announced star striker Wayne Rooney will definitely miss another five weeks at least while he continues to nurse an ankle injury that's plagued him for nearly six months. Recently, the injury was aggravated during a training session clash with teammate Paul Scholes on 19 October before United's home Champions League match against Turkish champions Bursaspor.
Manchester United Striker Wayne Rooney To Miss Another Five Weeks With Ankle Injury
Rooney was initially thought to miss only three weeks with the knock, but United manager Ferguson believes Rooney will need another couple of weeks to regain match fitness if he's to be effective upon his return. Rooney last appeared for Manchester United as a substitute during United's 2-2 draw at home against West Brom and will now miss Premier League matches against Wolves, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Wigan, Blackburn and Blackpool as well as Champions League matches against Bursaspor and Rangers away.
As much as Rooney’s services could be missed, United’s new summer signing Javier Hernandez has stepped into the hole left by Rooney as a solid replacement. Hernandez scored a brace in United’s 1-2 away win against Stoke City and found the winner in their Carling Cup fourth round tie at home against Wolves.
While Rooney has had a tumultuous time both on and off the field for club and country in the last few months, he’ll surely now view his time with the physio as a welcome relief from the insanity that has been his life in recent times.
