Wednesday afternoon, at 3:30pm ET, the National League winners of the 2010 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards will be announced. This, of course, is the second half of the two-day process, and you can check out the American League Gold Glove winners here. Based on Tuesday’s course of events, the winners will not be known until 3:30 on the nose, as there should be no leaks.
2010 NL Gold Glove Winners Announced At 3:30pm ET
The Gold Gloves are voted on by the league’s managers and coaches, and votes are cast for the best defensive players at each infield position, and for the three best defensive outfielders, regardless of position. They may only vote for players in their own league, and they can’t vote for players on their own teams.
Over in the AL, Ichiro Suzuki won his tenth Gold Glove in a row, and Torii Hunter had his streak snapped at nine. The NL doesn't have any streaks nearly that long, but it does still have some players looking to keep up a run. Jimmy Rollins comes in having won three Gold Gloves in a row, although he's unlikely to repeat after having missed nearly half the year due to injuries. Meanwhile, Shane Victorino, Adrian Gonzalez, and Yadier Molina each won in both 2008 and 2009, and could repeat in 2010.
First-time winners in the NL a year ago were Adam Wainwright, Matt Kemp, Ryan Zimmerman, and Michael Bourn. Orlando Hudson also won his third in four seasons.
Stay tuned to this StoryStream for updates as the winners are announced. There should, at the very least, be some changes in the middle infield.
