After the Oregon Ducks and Stanford Cardinal survived upset scares this Saturday, the Arizona Wildcats weren't so lucky. The USC Trojans took control in Tucson and dropped the Wildcats, 24-21. Nick Foles lead the 'Cats down the field late in the fourth quarter, throwing for a third touchdown and narrowing the gap to three with just over a minute left. The Trojans recovered the ensuing onside kick and were able to kill the clock, sending Arizona to a second loss in as many weeks.
No. 18 Arizona Vs. USC: Trojans Knock Off Wildcats, 24-21
Arizona was banged-up heading into the game and had taken a pounding at the hands of the No. 7 Stanford Cardinal last weekend. It led one writer -- Greg Hansen of the Arizona Daily Star -- to call for an upset and wonder if the Wildcats would win another game this year.
I think it’s entirely possible that Arizona will lose its remaining games, 0-3, which would include a season-crushing loss to the Sun Devils. I think this club has seen its best days this season, and if Stoops can coach Arizona to even one more victory this year, it would be remarkable.
USC quarterback Matt Barkley, bothered at times by a left knee injury, threw for 170 yards, one touchdown and an interception on the day. Marc Tyler was the star of the showing, running for a game-high 160 yards and a touchdown. Robert Woods caught eight passes for 41 yards to lead the Trojan receivers. Rhett Ellison added a receiving touchdown.
Foles did everything he could to keep the Wildcats in the game, throwing for 340 yards yards and three touchdowns.Terrence Miller caught seven passes for 116 yards and Juron Criner added 98 receiving yards for the 'Cats. Travis Cobb and David Douglas both caught touchdown passes for Arizona.
The Wildcats fall 7-3 on the season while USC improves to 7-3, leapfrogging the Wildcats in the Pac-10 standings. Arizona is off next week before traveling to Oregon to take on the No. 1 Ducks.
