Guillermo Barros Schelotto Doesn’t Plan On Being With Columbus Crew In 2011

Coming off a season in which he played a career high in minutes, led the team in goals and assists and guided the Columbus Crew into the playoffs, Guillermo Barros Schelotto said he's been told he'll be left exposed in the Expansion Draft.

Schelotto sounded like a player who has played his last game for the Crew in comments to the Columbus Dispatch.

“Today the coach told me he wanted to make the team young,” Schelotto said. “They have made the decision.”

If the Crew were to exercise Schelotto’s option, he would reportedly be in line to make $650,000 next season, about twice what he made this season.

The Crew also reportedly declined the options on veteran defenders Frankie Hejduk and Gino Padula and midfielder Duncan Oughton.

Schelotto could prove to be an attractive option to either of the expansion franchises, especially if reports are true that the Argentinian is willing to stay in MLS at roughly his current salary. Despite being 37, he scored nine goals and had nine assists while staying healthy all season.
