Rodney McGruder, Jacob Pullen and Jamar Samuels each scored 13 points to help lead the third ranked Kansas State Wildcats to an early season home victory over No. 22 Virginia Tech, 73-57.

The Wildcats lead the Hokies by one at half at a score of 30-29. Virginia Tech’s Malcolm Delaney, who led scoring with 22 points, hit a three to begin the second, giving Virginia Tech a temporary lead. The teams traded baskets for a few minutes then the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run to grab a six-point lead with about 11 and a half minutes to play.
Kansas State had pushed its advantage to 59-49 with five minutes to play. Hokies coach Seth Greenberg was given a technical for arguing with the officials after a Samuels lay-up. From there, the Wildcats’ advantage continued to expand, eventually reaching 19 points.
Both teams struggled with shooting early, as the score was 16-16 near the midpoint of the first half. Delaney struggled with turnovers, having given the ball over to Kansas State nine times.
