A highly contested, back-and-forth match-up came down to the wire in New Orleans tonight as the Hornets held on late to drop the Dallas Mavericks, 99-97. Down six with 2:14 to go, Dallas put together a run, closing the deficit to two and setting up a wild finish. Jason Kidd turned the Hornets over on an inbounds pass and put the Mavericks in a position to tie or win the game with just seconds to go, but the Mavs couldn't close the deal. David West picked Dirk Nowitzki's pocket with just two seconds left in the game to seal the win for the Hornets.
Mavericks Vs. Hornets: New Orleans Hangs On To Drop Dallas, 99-97
Chris Paul led the way for New Orleans, putting up 19 points and dishing out 11 assists. West and Marco Belinelli each added 17 points on the night. Emeka Okafor pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end.
Nowitzki led all scorers with 29 points while adding nine rebounds in a losing effort. Jason Terry chipped in 17 points and seven assists of the bench for the Mavs. Kidd added 11 points and a team-high eight assists.
New Orleans avenged a loss to the Mavericks on Monday, its first of the season. The Hornets improved to a league-best 9-1 with the win and stayed perfect at home. Dallas fell to 7-3 on the year and suffered its first road loss of the season. The Hornets host the Cleveland Cavaliers (5-5) this Friday. Dallas hosts the Chicago Bulls (6-3) on Friday, as well.
