Young Arsenal Midfielder Jack Wilshere Signs Long-Term Contract With Gunners
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has signed a new long-term contract at the age of 18. Wilshere has been with the North London club since the age of nine, captaining the Under-16s and playing in both the Under-18s and Arsenal reserves. After a loan spell at Bolton Wanderers last season, Wilshere is back at Arsenal, playing both first-team and Champions League football.
It may be only a quarter of the way through the Premier League season, but Wilshere has already demonstrated that he’s a special player, deserving of a long-term contract. He’s played in eight Premier League matches and was named Arsenal’s player of the month for September. Wilshere has also started all three of the Gunners’ Champions League matches, scoring a goal in the team’s 5-1 rout over Shakhtar Donetsk.
Wilshere has also impressed England manager Fabio Capello, who gave the youngster his first senior cap in the friendly against Hungary in August. While many English fans might despair over their aging squad, Wilshere provides at least a bit of hope for the Three Lions’ future.
