Chelsea will be without star attacker Florent Maloudaa on Wednesday when Spartak Moscow visits Stamford Bridge in UEFA Champions League play. The Premier League's leading goal scorer picked up an ankle injury during the Blues' Saturday trip to Blackburn. Then, Malouda was taken-off after 72 minutes and replaced by Daniel Sturridge. Tomorrow, Sturridge could get the start.
Florent Malouda Ankle Injury To Keep Star Out Of Chelsea’s Champions League Match With Spartak Moscow
Malouda has been one of Chelsea's most productive players this season, appearing in all 10 Premier League matches while amassing seven goals. The left wing has also started all three Champions League matches for the Blues, failing to score.
The injury means Chelsea will be without three of their key players. Malouda joins Frank Lampard, with the 32-year-old midfielder out of action for the last two months. Also a miss will be right back José Bosingwa, who has picked up an illness.
Chelsea will enter Wednesday’s match as one of five teams perfect through three rounds of Champions League group play. Their 0-2 win on Moscow two weeks ago gave them a three point lead on Spartak, with Olympique Marseille then Zilina rounding out Group F.
With a victory on Wednesday, the Premier League’s leaders can clinch a spot in the competition’s knock-out stage.
