Clarke MacArthur of the Toronto Maple Leafs called him "the heart and soul" of their team on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, the Leafs learned that they'll be without the services of their captain, Dion Phaneuf, for four to six weeks after a deep leg laceration from the skate of Ottawa's Peter Regin forced him out of the lineup.

According to James Mirtle at The Globe & Mail, Phaneuf had surgery to repair that deep cut on his leg.
The Leafs are in Washington tonight to take on the Capitals without their captain. Will they be able to get back to their early-season form without him?
