The Washington Capitals are now on a six game losing streak after putting together a lackluster effort against the New York Rangers with a 7-0 loss on Sunday night.
Capitals Vs. Rangers: Washington Extend Losing Streak With 7-0 Loss
Henrik Lundqvist gets the first star of the game with his 31 save shutout. Lundqvist's fifth shutout of the season, a league leading total, came in a relatively easy game for the goaltender, only really having to face a handful of shots from between the circles.
The Rangers offense had a four goal second period that defined this game. Artem Anisimov, Marian Gaborik, Brandon Dubinsky, and Marc Staal each scored in the period that essentially sunk the Capitals. The Rangers scored in all scenarios as well: even strength, power play, and short handed.
For the Capitals, there really isn't much to discuss about the team's performance. Alexander Ovechkin tried to spark his team after being down four with his first fight in four years. His last fight came against Paul Gaustad in December of 2006. That spark lasted for 1:09 when the Rangers scored their shorthanded goal.
The Capitals will try and break their now six game losing streak against the Anaheim Ducks at home on Wednesday while the Rangers face the Penguins on Wednesday.
