Wednesday night in Houston, TX, Auburn's Nick Fairley was awarded the trophy for most outstanding college lineman in the nation for 2010. He beat out Clemson's Da'Quan Bowers, Iowa's Adrian Clayborn and TCU's Jake Kirkpatrick.
Auburn’s Nick Fairley Named Lombardi Trophy Winner
Fairley, a defensive tackle, leads the SEC with a school-record 21 tackles for loss. He is second in the league with 10.5 sacks. He has also recovered two fumbles and intercepted a pass. He is fifth on the team with 55 tackles. He was named the SEC’s defensive player of the year by the Associated Press on Monday.
Fairley is also a finalist for the Bednarik Award, which goes to the nation's top defender.
Fairley accepted the award alongside his position coach Tracy Rocker, won also the award in 1988.
