The Chicago White Sox have been in the market for bullpen help. However, after non-tendering Bobby Jenks and signing Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko to big contracts, it was unclear where it would come from, and how they'd find the budget room. Turns out they've made room for Jesse Crain, as the two sides have reached an agreement.
Jesse Crain Signs Three-Year Contract With White Sox
According to Peter Gammons, the White Sox are set to sign Crain to a three-year contract. Financial terms are unknown, but Crain earned $2 million a year ago, and former Twins teammate Matt Guerrier just signed a three-year deal worth $12 million, so that could be close.
Crain is a 29-year-old righty reliever who was once among the game’s better relief prospects. He works primarily off of a mid-90s fastball and a mid-80s slider, and last season posted a 3.04 ERA over 68 innings. His 2010 strikeout rate was the best of his career, which is an encouraging sign, and the White Sox will look for him to remain effective in the later innings for a good long time.
