Goodyear Tire Testing at Newly-paved Daytona International Has People Smiling

Will NASCAR be forced to ‘play’ with the areo packages of the cars, or to use an even smaller restrictor plate? Too early to tell in my opinion but I think NASCAR will have a better picture as to how the cars run on the track during the NASCAR Preseason Thunder three day test in January.
Drivers who participated in the test this week also agreed that the tires Goodyear brought for both the left and right sides were a good combination. Let’s hope Goodyear doesn’t mess with the combination too much before the race in February - but let’s face it the weather could be a lot different in February than it is now and that tire combination just might not work then.
Another thing that drivers liked, and that I especially like, is that pit row is now about 10 or 12 feet wider allowing more room for cars to drive up and down pit row. This also makes it more safe for the crew members who are servicing these cars on pit row.
I’ve included a few sound bites below from some of the drivers, including Dale Earnhardt Jr., who participated in the tire test this week.
Dale Earnhardt Jr says he likes the new surface (28 sec.)
Jeff Gordon says speeds will make cars and drivers more agressive (59 sec.)
Brad Keselowski says the track will gain more grip through out Speed Weeks (17 sec.)
