Kyle Orton hasn't practiced in full all week for the Denver Broncos because of arm and rib injuries but the door still remains open for him to be the starter on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. Head coach Eric Studesville suggested "mental reps" may be enough for Orton to play if he's physically able to but Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post cites "conventional wisdom" as a possible reason backup QB Tim Tebow could start because he's taken the first team reps all week.
Tim Tebow Could Start For Broncos Against Raiders; Kyle Orton’s Status Uncertain
On Thursday, Studesville said Tebow did a good job in practice on the first team.
“He did well (Wednesday), he ran the offense, he went in there, had command of the huddle and threw the ball well,” Studesville said. “I thought in practice he did a nice job for us.”
Tebow said he thought practice has gone OK.
If he does start, it would be the first of start of his career. He's attempted one regular season pass -- a 3-yard touchdown pass against the Chiefs -- and went 25-of-39 for 344 yards, two touchdowns, and three turnovers in the preseason. The Raiders have the 26th ranked run defense in the NFL so if Tebow does start it's possible Denver goes run-heavy to exploit them.
It sounds like the Broncos will take the final decision until game day. There’s no reason to stop the Raiders from preparing for two quarterbacks.
