Entering Saturday's game in Lawrence against USC, No. 3 Kansas had won 64 consecutive games at home. The streak is still alive -- barely -- and the Jayhawks have Josh Selby to thank for the 70-68 win.
Kansas 70, USC 68: Josh Selby Shines In Debut, No. 3 Jayhawks Preserve Home Win Streak
Selby, in his first-ever game at KU, led his team with 21 points. The freshman sunk five of eight three-point attempts, including a huge three-pointer in the final minute when Kansas was down 68-66. Selby also pulled down five rebounds and shot 6-for-7 from the line.
USC trailed by double-digits for much of the came, but the Trojans caught fire in the second half before finally -- and briefly -- taking an improbable lead in the game's final minutes. After Selby's three-pointer and an out-of-bounds call on Kansas, USC had the ball with 6.2 seconds remaining. Jio Fontan caught the inbounds pass, but the Kansas defense was smothering, and Fontan's heel touched out of bounds. After fouling, the Trojans' only hope was to toss up a desperation three from mid-court.
This marks the Jayhawks’ 65th straight win at Allen Fieldhouse, and their record improves to 10-0 on the season. Just as significantly, Josh Selby has shown us what he’s capable of.
