Salary Dump! Bruins Trade Marco Sturm To Kings For Conditional Draft Pick

The Bruins were in salary trouble. That’s not the case anymore.

After trading defenseman Matt Hunwick to Colorado on Tuesday, they've made another move today, sending still-injured forward Marco Sturm to the Los Angeles Kings for a conditional draft pick.

We’re not in on the talks or anything, but we’ll take a stab and say that the condition on that pick has something to do with his knee staying in tact. He hasn’t played since Game 1 of the 2010 Eastern Conference Semifinals against Philadelphia, and he’s currently still on long-term injured reserve.

The 32-year-old Sturm is on track to return to the lineup soon, but with Marc Savard ready to break into the Bruins lineup again, they needed to clear space. Had they not traded Sturm, he was likely on his way to the waiver wire once healthy again. Now, with Hunwick and Sturm gone, Boston has cleared $4.95 million in cap space.

Sturm had to waive his no-trade clause to complete the deal.
