On Friday, Texas lost to Texas A&M, dropping the Longhorns' record to just 5-7 in 2010, their worst mark under head coach Mack Brown, and its first losing season since 1997. Less than a week later, the blame has started.
Greg Davis, Texas’ Offensive Coordinator, Will Reportedly Be Replaced
On Thursday, it was reported that Texas is set to replace offensive coordinator Greg Davis, per Orangeblood's Geoff Ketchum, who cited "multiple sources."
Nothing is official yet, of course, and the Dallas Morning News is even reporting that a source within Texas is telling them “no decision has been made” regarding Davis’ future.
The source told the Morning News that head coach Mack Brown continues his postseason evaluation regarding the 5-7 disapointment of a season. And, the source emphasized, no calls have been made about who goes, including Davis, Brown’s offensive coordinator at Texas since his arrival in 1998.
And as Burnt Orange Nation, our Texas blog, points out, this isn’t the first time Davis was seemingly done in Austin -- in 2003, reports of his firing were greatly exaggerated.
However, head coach Mack Brown has already said this season’s disappointment was the fault of the coaches and not the players, so one would expect some changes. And a shake-up on offense, where Texas ranked 59th nationally in yards per game, sure makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider Texas was 88th in points per game, with 23.75 -- finishing just ahead of college football powerhouses 3-9 Minnesota and 2-10 Western Kentucky.
If and when Davis is let go, BON speculates that the longtime friend of Mack Brown will remain in the schools’ athletic department.
Expect plenty more reaction over at Burnt Orange Nation.
