What was already a busy day for GM Kenny Williams and the White Sox only got busier. After signing free agent Adam Dunn to a four-year contract earlier Thursday afternoon, the White Sox then re-signed catcher A.J. Pierzynski to a two-year contract worth $8 million.
A.J. Pierzynski Re-Signs With White Sox For Two Years, $8 Million
The contract represents a pay cut from the $6.25 million Pierzynski made in 2010, but the soon-to-be 34-year-old was clearly happy to take it, given that he signed so early. Previous rumors had him nearing an agreement with the Blue Jays, but nothing there ever came to fruition.
Pierzynski batted .270 a year ago with nine home runs and a .688 OPS. He threw out just 26% of would-be base-stealers as well, but he’s a steady presence and will be expected to start again in 2011. For more on A.J. and the White Sox, be sure to visit South Side Sox.
