The NFL has a long and rich history of games being played in inclement weather, and snowy conditions have produced some of the game's most striking contests in the HD era. But tonight's game between the Eagles and Vikings would likely be played in blizzard conditions, and that may be a step too far for the NFL.
Eagles Vs. Vikings: NFL Ponders Postponement Of Game Due To Blizzard
Pro Football Talk reports that the league is mulling whether or not to play tonight in Philadelphia, keying on NFL spokesman Greg Aiello’s tweet saying the league is “discussing (the) situation.”
There are a host of problems with this prospect, and ones that may make moving the third consecutive Vikings game due to weather conditions harder than it was to move the first two. The first and foremost problem is that NBC’s rights to tonight’s game mean that the game would almost certainly be broadcast on network television if moved to Monday night, which would eat into ESPN’s dominance of television with the “Monday Night Football” franchise.
No matter what happens, it seems likely that the weather will make tonight's game — in which Michael Vick and the Eagles could clinch the NFC East, and Brett Favre might play his last snowy game — a must-see, even if it doesn't actually happen tonight.
