He may have been their best defenseman at the moment, thanks to an injured Mark Streit, but the New York Islanders proved Tuesday that it’s not about this season.
Islanders Trade James Wisniewski To Canadiens For Two Draft Picks
They traded James Wisniewski to the Montreal Canadiens for two draft picks, a compensatory 2011 second rounder and a conditional 2012 fifth rounder.
No word on what the condition may be on that fifth round pick, but the compensatory pick was awarded to the Habs after they chose not to sign former first round pick David Fisher.
It will be interesting to see how Wisniewski handles Montreal. The Habs become his fourth team in just six NHL seasons, and in his most recent stop on Long Island, he was unable to fill the shoes left by the injured Streit. There’s obviously a much better supporting cast around him in Montreal, so perhaps that can allow him to settle into a more effective role.
