Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard suffered a finger injury during their Week 15 game against the Colts. Unfortunately for the Jags, it will cause him to miss their critical Week 17 games against the Texans. From the Florida Times-Union:
David Garrard’s Injury Forces Him Out For Critical Jaguars-Texans Game
Quarterback David Garrard will have surgery on his right middle finger tomorrow.
Garrard first injured the finger by hitting it on the helmet of one of the Colts' defensive ends two weeks ago. He couldn't remember if it was Dwight Freeney or Robert Mathis.
Garrard started for the Jaguars last Sunday against the Redskins and threw for 299 yards, but two critical interception, including one in overtime, contributed to the loss. Statistically, 2010 has been one of his best years, as he's thrown for over 2,700 yards and rushed for 279 more.
Coach Jack Del Rio hasn't yet announced who will start in Garrard's place. The two candidates on the roster are Trent Edwards, an ex-starter for the Bills, and Todd Bouman, who found his way back into the NFL after a five-year absence and started a game for the Jaguars.
The Jaguars stand at 8-7, good for second place in the AFC South. In order to reach the playoffs, they must beat the 6-9 Texans on Sunday and hope the division-leading Colts lose to the Titans.
