On a busy Sunday, a few teams in baseball have already made headlines, what with the Adrian Gonzalez trade and Jayson Werth signing with the Nationals. We might now be able to go ahead and add the Brewers to the picture as well.
Brewers On Verge Of Shaun Marcum Trade With Blue Jays
According to Tom Haudricourt, the Brewers are on the verge of trading for the nearly-29-years-old righty Shaun Marcum. Marcum, a Blue Jay, posted a 3.64 ERA last season over 31 starts, with 165 strikeouts and 43 walks.
The Brewers have been desperate to add some starting pitcher behind Yovani Gallardo, and Marcum is a good fit. He's still under cheap team control for another two years, and in the National League could end up pitching like an ace.
Haudricourt says that the Blue Jays will receive prospects in return, and it's possible that they could be making this move to prepare for a potential Zack Greinke trade. The Blue Jays are known to have strong interest in Greinke, and while they also have the pieces necessary to bring him in, they may be reluctant to deal so much of their youth. Trading Marcum for prospects could reduce the impact.
