Palmeiras President Confirms Interest in Ronaldinho, Adriano

Palmerias already has one of the most expensive squads in Brazil, but on the heels of their surprise elimination from the Copa Sudamericana (and the missed opportunity to qualify for next year's Copa Libertadores), the club's president has confirmed the Verdão is ready to keep spending. On Wednesday, in an interview with Rádio Bandeirantes, Salvador Hugo Palaia dropped two of the biggest names possible: Ronaldinho and Adriano.

Ronaldinho is thought on track for a winter move from Milan, where he has spent the last two and a half seasons. With the Rossoneri having acquired (and settled on) Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho, the former Barcelona and Grêmio star has been linked with moves to Brazil as well as Major League Soccer.

A move to São Paulo and Palmeiras would reunited Ronaldinho with Luiz Felipe Scolari. Scolari coached Ronaldinho in 2002 when Brazil won the World Cup.

Looking to further pad a squad that finished 10th in this seasons Campeonato, Palaia also hinted at a return for Adriano, instrumental in Flamengo’s Brasileirao title in 2009. The former Internazionale star has since moved to Roma, seeing little time for the Giallorossi.

Between the summers of 2009 and 2010, Adriano scored 34 goals in 48 matches for Fla in the club’s national and state championship campaigns. He also played briefly for São Paulo in 2008, scoring 17 goals in the Paulista and Copa Libertadores.

Palmeiras was surprising eliminated by Goias in the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana, South America’s version of UEFA’s Europa League. The Verdão took a 1-0 lead out of the first, road leg only to lose the second match 2-1, eliminated on away goals.
