Following reports that the Atlanta Braves made Damon an offer, the Detroit Tigers have one-upped the competition:
Tigers Reportedly Offer Johnny Damon Biggest Contract
Two sources told ESPN.com that the Detroit Tigers have made the largest offer, amid speculation around the industry that that bid is in the range of one year, $7 million. There were indications the sides were still discussing a possible two-year deal. But even the Tigers’ one-year offer appears to be the biggest offer on the table.
As far as Atlanta’s offer is concerned:
MLB.com reported that the Braves’ offer was for less than $4 million.
While the Braves, Tigers, Rays, and White Sox have all been involved to some degree recently, it seems that the Tigers have moved to the front of the pack, as they have both the most money to spend and the greatest apparent need. It would appear that the Damon situation is finally set to come to a close.
