Senators Edge Washington 6-5 To Take The Northeast Division Lead

Chris Phillips and Alexei Kovalev scored third-period goals as Ottawa defeated Washington, 6-5, Thursday night to take Northeast Division lead.

Ottawa (35-22-4) started strong, taking a 3-1 lead after one period, but saw the Capitals score four consecutive goals to take a 4-3 lead.

Chris Neil scored at 18:04 of the second period to tie the score at 4-4, and Ottawa scored twice in the first 7:36 of the third period to open up a 6-4 lead.

Alexander Semin scored his third goal of the game 13:37 into the third to draw Washington within one.

The Capitals (41-13-7) follow up a franchise-record 14 game winning streak with back-to-back duds, falling to the Senators in a game that showcased neither defense nor goaltending.
