Switzerland’s Simon Ammann Wins First Gold Of 2010 Winter Games

The first medals of the 2010 Winter Olympics have been awarded, and they came in men’s Normal Hill Ski Jumping. Switzerland’s Simon Ammann jumped 108.0m in his second jump to clinch the gold, after a distance of 105m on his first attempt.

The silver medal went to Adam Malysz of Poland, who finished with jumps of 103.5 and 105 meters, and the bronze was won by Austria’s Gregor Schlierenzauer, who overcame his first jump of 101.5m with a second jump of 106.5m.

Nick Alexander was America’s highest finisher, finishing 41st, with a jump of 93.5m, but did not qualify for the final round.
