Terps Gets Zoubeked: Duke Drubs Maryland

Durham, NC (Sports Network) - Jon Scheyer made 3-of-4 from three-point range and finished with a game-high 22 points, as eighth-ranked Duke earned a 77-56 win over ACC rival Maryland at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Brian Zoubek turned in a huge effort with 16 points and 17 rebounds for Duke (21-4, 9-2 ACC), which has won four straight since dropping an 89-77 decision at Georgetown on January 30. The Blue Devils improved to a perfect 14-0 at home this season. Nolan Smith ended with 14 points and six assists, while Kyle Singler went for 12 points and seven boards in the victory.

The game was Mike Krzyzewski’s 1,000th as head coach of Duke, and he is now 781-219 over 30 seasons with the school. He becomes only the eighth coach in NCAA Division I history to reach the milestone with one team.

Greivis Vasquez had a team-best 17 points to go along with eight rebounds for Maryland (16-7, 6-3), which had won two in a row and six of seven entering the contest. Cliff Tucker and Eric Hayes chipped in with 10 and eight points, respectively, in defeat.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Singler and Scheyer put Duke ahead 30-14 with 7:34 left in the opening half. Scheyer then made another trey, and Mason Plumlee's free throw in the final minute gave the Blue Devils an 18-point advantage.

Tucker’s fastbreak layup in the closing seconds of the half got Maryland to within 40-24 at the break.

However, Duke opened up the second half with an 8-2 run, and after Zoubek’s putback dunk, the hosts had a 22-point lead, 48-26, nearly three minutes in.

Vasquez scored nine points out of a 10-0 Maryland run to cut the deficit to 54-44 with 9:28 to play, but the Blue Devils responded by scoring nine straight to build an insurmountable 63-44 lead with 6:31 left on the clock. Maryland never threatened the outcome the rest of the way.

Duke has now won six straight over the Terps and improved to 107-60 in the all-time series over Maryland...The Blue Devils finished 40.9 percent shooting but made only 5-of-15 from three-point range...Maryland shot 38.3 percent and was a brutal 2-of-13 from beyond the arc.
