A decision will be made today whether Ryan Getzlaf’s injured ankle will keep him out of playing for Team Canada, after he missed last night’s game against Calgary. Canada GM Steve Yzerman has until tomorrow to submit his final roster to the IIHF, so if things don’t go well during today’s skate there’s a good chance Getzlaf won’t be on the team. Unlike for most other countries, that’s not really a bad thing for the Canadians.
Ryan Getzlaf’s Injury May Keep Him Out Of Olympics
↵↵“Our players are very used to playing injured in the Stanley Cup Playoffs,” Edmonton GM Kevin Lowe said. “Because the replacement for that player is not a worthy replacement. In the Olympics, you have players that can come in and replace a guy and add more to the team. It certainly was a discussion that we had over this last year on what would happen. We asked that all the players take that into consideration.”
↵↵When Canada finished seventh (seventh!!!) in the 2006 Winter Olympics, many blamed the extremely disappointing result on the fact that several key players were reportedly playing injured. With Canada having a plethora of world-class talent at their disposal, Yzerman will be able to ensure that each player on his team is 100% healthy before heading to Vancouver.
