Canada’s long national nightmare is over. In their third go around hosting the Olympic Games, Canada has finally won a gold medal on their home soil.
Alexandre Bilodeau Ends Canada’s Drought, Wins Gold In Men’s Moguls
Alexandre Bilodeau, who was second after the qualifying round, skied a 26.75 in the finals, narrowly edging defending champion Dale Begg-Smith of Australia (but Vancouver born) for the gold medal. America’s Bryon Wilson won the bronze medal with a score of 26.08.
Canada hosted both the 1976 Summer Olympics (Montreal) and the 1988 Winter Olympics (Calgary), but never won a gold medal in either of those Games. They won 11 medals at the Summer Games, and just five total (two silver, three bronze) in the Calgary Games.
