Yahoo’s Fourth-Place Medal blog has some wakeup words for snowboarder Nate Holland, who thinks tighter pants on boarding kits are threatening the sport’s integrity:
Team USA Snowboarder Blames Emo Fashion For Demise Of Sport’s Street Cred
↵Look, bro: Team USA Snowboarding sponsors include Nike, Microsoft, and Visa. That’s about as “establishment” as you can get. So relax about “the integrity of the sport.”
Not to mention you’ll be competing in a branded pair of fake distressed jeans.
↵Holland seems to be fine with leaving out the most obvious argument, which is that snowboarding in tight pants is heinously uncomfortable, so moving on: The way even the most marginal of sports get forcefully mainstreamed these days, you’ve lost your street edge by the time you’re competing in the X Games, let alone for an Olympic medal.
