Should the NFL get rid of the preseason?

It's that time on the NFL calendar where fans get amped to watch their teams return to the field for preseason action... only to wonder if they should change the channel by halftime.

That brings about a question that football fans have wondered for a long time... should the NFL get rid of the preseason entirely?

The league structure doesn't seem to value it much, as the sport has cut down to three preseason games in recent years after expanding the regular season to 17 games. An 18-game regular season that sees the preseason truncated to just two games feels like an inevitability as well, right?

With the increase of joint practices around the league every August, controlled environments where coaching staffs can pit their starters against those from another team while minimizing the injury risks that come from full-contact preseason games, those preseason matchups simply feel like relics from the past.

Well-run organizations aren't exposing their players to injury in the preseason, nor showing their hands from their offensive playbooks, no matter how much old-school fans whine about it.

It's time to wrap this up.

What's your take?
