Earlier today, it seemed like the Indians had offered free agent Russell Branyan his only Major League contract of the offseason. Now it seems they’re facing some stiff competition:
Indians, Rays, Red Sox All Competing For Russell Branyan
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Indians have offered Russell Branyan a big-league contract, but now they have to sign him. Boston and Tampa Bay are also reportedly interested in Branyan, who hit 31 homers last year for Seattle.
It’s believed Boston and Tampa Bay have offered Branyan bigger base salaries than the Indians. The Tribe is apparently trying to counter that with a bigger bonus package.
Cleveland seems to have the most interest and Boston might have the most money to offer, but Tampa Bay might offer Branyan the most potential playing time, as DH Pat Burrell is coming off a miserable season and may not be long for the regular role.
