A welterweight matchup between Mike Pyle (19-6-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and Jesse Lennox (11-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) will take place in June at UFC 115.
A source close to the competitors today told MMAjunkie.com that verbal agreements are in place for the fight and that bout agreements should be finalized this week.
Although not officially announced by the organization, UFC 115 takes place June 12 at GM Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Mike Pyle v. Jesse Lennox at UFC 115
Lennox is coming off a loss to Rick Story while Pyle lost his last bout to Jake Ellenberger. Both of those are tough fights and not losses that either man should be ashamed of, but the volume of cuts following UFC 109 should serve as a reminder that consecutive losses can lead to a quick exit from the UFC.
Pyle has fought in every major American promotion over the past few years but still hasn’t been able to break through as a big name in the sport, mainly because on the opportunities to elevate himself to the next level he has picked up losses. A win over Lennox would keep him around the UFC where he’d be able to continue working to make that leap in his career.
Lennox has shown a lot of potential in picking up a WEC win over Blas Avena and a win in his UFC debut against Danillo Villefort but the loss to Story was a big set-back. A win over Pyle could lead to a fight with a guy like Brian Foster which would be a really interesting test in his career.
Rumored UFC 115 card:
Randy Couture vs. Rich Franklin
Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz
Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald
Tyson Griffin vs. Evan Dunham
Pat Barry vs. Gilbert Yvel
James Wilks vs. Peter Sobotta
Mike Pyle vs. Jesse Lennox
