Tuesday Was Not Mississippi State’s Finest Night

The coverage of the phone calls and text messages to Kentucky’s DeMarcus Cousins hit a fever pitch Tuesday, leading up to the Wildcats’ game against Mississippi State. The focus was on the fact that Cousins was receiving racist text messages. Initially I was a little bit torn on this. Cousins didn’t make it sound like the bulk of what he was getting was racist. He just mentioned that some of them were, but the media at large seemed fixated on that point. So for a few hours, it seemed like the fans in Starkville were being portrayed unfairly. And then I saw that Cousins’ number wasn’t just posted on the web, but also ina bus shelter and who knows where else. And then a few dopes decided to do this:

The shaky camera taping the TV isn’t the best way to watch what happened, but if you couldn’t see it, a few folks decided to throw drinks onto the floor with 2.7 seconds left in overtime. I get it: you’re mad this wasn’t called goaltending. (And yes, you got a raw deal on that particular call.) Even one of the players lost his cool after the game, according to CBS’ Gary Parrish. But please retain your sanity, because as West Virginia has shown, a few bad apples can embarrass a larger group of people.A few memorable images from the night after the jump:

Pestering the star player: there’s an app for that.
