Slovakia’s team doctor announced Marian Gaborik out of Wednesday’s opening game versus the Czech Republic and Thursday’s meeting with Russia. In a noble decision, he took part in warm-ups and then decided to try his luck at playing with a deep gash on his right thigh.
Gaborik Returns To Play In Opener
Gaborik scored to tie the game 1-1 in the second period but an inspiring performance from Jaromir Jagr gave the Czechs a 3-1 win. The former NHL star put away the go-ahead goal and set up the insurance marker.
As for Gaborik, he said he felt a little better throughout the game but his status for today’s match with the Russians is unknown. He isn’t someone normally expected to fight through injury yet it goes to show how valuable performing in the Olympics is to these athletes.
