Given the size-able talent gap between Switzerland and Canada, this shouldn’t be a 1-0 game. But when you combine Jonas Hiller, a suffocating Swiss defense and a Canadian offense that’s struggling to get to loose rebounds, that’s what you get.
Canada Leads Switzerland 1-0 After First Period
Canada had three power plays in the first period, out-shot Switzerland 17-8 and controlled the puck for most of the time, but only garnered one goal out of the deal. The Swiss should consider themselves lucky at this point.
At the same time, they didn’t play a bad period. In fact it was quite the opposite. If Switzerland wants to have a shot in this game, they’re going to have to finish on the chances that they generated in the first while keeping up the same positive attributes as in the first. The question is if they have the stamina to do that.
