Did North Carolina’s Ed Davis Sign with an Agent?

↵↵Great find by Sports Agent Blog today, possibly catching a relationship between North Carolina forward Ed Davis and PTA Sports Management. The screen grab above is from the PTA Sports Management clients page from earlier this morning. If you go there now, you won’t see that link to Ed Davis’ name and bio. Make no mistake either, the bio was most definitely for Ed Davis, the current Tar Heel forward. Although it made no direct reference to North Carolina, it did mention Davis’ high school, Benedictine.↵
↵↵Sporting News college basketball writer Mike DeCourcy reached out to various members of the North Carolina athletic department and was told by one official that they are investigating the matter and they’ll get back to us as they learn more. ↵
↵↵The News and Observer spoke with Vince Porter of PTA Sports Management. Porter told the paper there is no agreement with Davis -- either signed or verbal -- but they have contacted the family. Porter’s explanation of how Davis wound up on the PTA site to the paper is below:↵
↵↵⇥Porter said he believes someone hacked his site, ptasportsmanagement.com, and added information that looked as if it had been cut-and-pasted from the UNC’s media guide -- such as where Davis played in high school, his high school statistics and his family information. Davis’ picture had not been added to the site, and the information looked different from what was listed for other clients. ↵↵↵UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Porter and he said he doesn’t know who came up with the word “hacked” and put it in a quote for him. He simply told me he had no clue how it got up there and that he’s investigating every possibility of how it could have happened. Porter also said reaffirmed some of the comments from above. They’ve been in communication with Davis, but there’s been no committment -- either written or verbal. Porter also said the attention is really hurting him as a growing agency.↵

↵If you're looking for the news in this story, there are really two prongs. 1. Is Davis turning pro? Most viewed that as a foregone conclusion following his broken wrist, so this would just confirm what we expected, albeit a little earlier than we anticipated. 2. If Davis is being represented by PTA, when did they reach an agreement? If it was prior to Davis' injury, there could be some significant blowback. If it came afterward, the culpability on North Carolina's part could be nothing or next-to-nothing.↵
